Alice de was born before 1141 in Hedingham, Essex, England.  Alice de's father was Aubrey II de Vere , Sheriff of London and her mother was Alice de Clare.  Her paternal grandparents were Alberic de Vere , Sheriff of Berkshire and Beatrice; her maternal grandparents were Gilbert Fitz Richard de Clare , Earl Hertford and Adeliza de Claremont. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Aubrey III de, Robert de, Geoffrey de, Rohese de, Juliana de and Adeliza de.  She was the youngest of the seven children.  She died after 1185 in Warkworth Castle, Alnwick, Northumberland, England.
