Gerard I Count of was born in 1057 in Lorraine, France. Gerard I Count of's father was Gerhard IV Duke of Alsace Upper Lorraine and his mother was Hadwide de Namur. His paternal grandparents were Gerhard II Count of Metz and Gisella of Alsace; his maternal grandparents were Albert II Count of Namur and Ermengarde of Lower Lorraine. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thierry II Duke of Alsace, Dietrich II Duke of Upper and Beatrice de. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died about 1120.-
