BARONY of TATESHAL (ancestors of)
ROBERT FITZHUGH, 1st son and heir, in 1166 held 25 knights' fees of the new feoffment. He granted a new site for Kirkstead Abbey on the Witham, made a gift to the Knights Templars and witnessed a charter granted to Rievaulx Abbey. He married Isabel, or Elizabeth, daughter of William FITZWALTER, of Wells and Claxby, Norfolk, by . . ., sister of Gilbert (DE GANT), EARL OF LINCOLN, and daughter of Walter DE GANT and was dead in 1185, when his widow was said to be 50 years of age. In 1202 she held lands (? her maritagium) worth 30 pounds, being then styled "Ysabel de Kandelesbi"; and in 1212 she held land in Candlesby in dower.
