His paternal grandparents were Richard I "The Fearless" Duke of Normandy and Gunnora (Gundra) de Crepon; his maternal grandparents were Conan I Duke of Brittany , Comte de Rennes and Ermengarde d' Anjou. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Richard III Duke of, Robert I "The Magnificent" Duke of, Fresende of, Alice Adelaide of and Judith de. He was the second youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 43 in 1047.-
