His paternal grandparents were Prophet Noah (Noe) ben Lamech ben Mathusala ben Enoch and Nahamah (Na'amah) (Emzara) (Naamah) (Coba) bint Rakeel ben Mathusala; his maternal grandparents were Eliakim ben Mathusala ben Enoch and Edna, wife of Eliakim ben Mathusala. He is the ancestor of the Lydians. The early descendants of Lud, the Ludim, were known to both the Assyriansand Babylonians as t he Ludu. Josephus tells us that their land was laterknown as Lydia (a direct Greek derivatio n of the name of Lud) which layin western Asia Minor. The Lydians were famed in the old worl d for theskill of their archers. They spoke an Indo-European language, someexamples of whic h are in the form of certain items of graffiti thatcurrently defiles certain Egyptian monumen ts.
