Matilda of was born in 1125 in Chambery, Savoy, France.  Matilda of's father was Amadeo III Count of Savoy and her mother was Matilda d' Albon.  Her paternal grandparents were Humbert II Count de Maurienne & Savoy and Gisela of Burgundy. She had a brother named Humbert III "Le Saint" Count of.  She was the older of the two children.  She died at the age of 32 on November 4th, 1157.
