Thomas de was born about 1199 in Carbonierres, Savoy, France. Thomas de's father was Thomas (Tomaso) I Count of Savoy and his mother was Margaret (Beatrice) of Geneva. His paternal grandparents were Humbert III "Le Saint" Count of Savoy and Beatrix d'Ivrea of Vienne; his maternal grandparents were William I Count of Geneva and Beatrix of Faucigny. He had a brother and two sisters, named Amadeo IV Count of Chablais & Aosta &, Agnes de and Beatrice of. He was the second oldest of the four children.-
