Gruffudd ap was born in 1153 in Dynevor Castle, Llandilo, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Gruffudd ap's father was Rhys "Fychan" ap Gruffudd , Prince of Wales and his mother was Gwenllian verch Madog. His maternal grandparents were Madog ap Maredudd , King of Powys and Susanna verch Gruffudd. He had a brother and four sisters, named Rhys "Gryg" ap, Gwenllian verch, Angharad (Ankaret) verch, Catrin verch and Margred verch. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 48 on July 25th, 1201 in Strata Florida, Caronuwchclawdd, Cardiganshire, Wales.-
