John was born about 1295 in Nettlecombe, Williton, Somerset, England. John's father was Simon Raleigh , of Nettlecombe & Wrenchester, Sir and his mother was Joan le Tort. His paternal grandparents were Simon Raleigh , of Nettlecombe, Sir and Ela de Reigny; his maternal grandfather was Laurence le Tort , of Owl Knoll. He had a sister named Avicia. He was the older of the two children. He died in 1340.General Notes

John de Raleigh, of Nettlecombe. Died 1340. Joined the
rebellion of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, in 1316 for which his
estates were seized, but later returned. A collector of the King's
