Dafydd Ap was born about 1200 in Of, Maelor Gymraeg, Denbighshire, Wales. Dafydd Ap's father was Rhys "Mechyll" Ap RHYS LORD OF DYNEVOR and his mother was Matilda De BRAOSE. He had a brother and two sisters, named Rhys "Ieuanc" Ap, Lleucu Verch and Gwenllian Verch. He was the second youngest of the four children.
