Joan de was born about 1174 in Basing, Hampshire, England. Joan de's father was Adam de Port , Lord of Basing, Sir and her mother was Mabel de Orval , Heiress of Halnaker & St-Jean. Her paternal grandparents were John de Port , Lord of Basing and Maud; her maternal grandparents were Reginald (Richard?) de Orval , Sir and Muriel de St. John , Heir of Halnaker & St-Jean. She had a brother named William de. She was the older of the two children. She died after 1204 in Ongar, Essex, England.General Notes
He [John the Marshal] m. Joan, daughter of Adam de Port, Lord of Basing, by his 1st wife, Mabel de Orval. He dsp. in Mar 1194, and was buried at Bradenstoke. His wife survived him and m. 2ndly, Richard de Rivers; she was living in 1204, but dead in 1213. [Complete Peerage X:Appendix G:96-97]
