Enguerrand II Count of Montreuil & was born about 1030 in Ponthieu, Somme, Picardy, France. Enguerrand II Count of Montreuil &'s father was Hugues II Comte de Ponthieu and his mother was Bertha of Aumale. His paternal grandparents were Enguerrand I Comte de Ponthieu and First Wife; his maternal grandparents were Guerinfroi Seigneur d' Aumale and Hermengarde. He had a brother named Guy I Count of Montreuil &. He was the older of the two children. He died on October 25th, 1053 in Slain at the siege of Arque (dspm).General Notes

Attempted to take advantage of the Duke William of Normandy's (the Conqueror) weaker position and lost in battle near the fortresss of Arques. [Ref: Wm Conqueror]
According to a later chronicler (rec. Hist. Franc., vol XI, p. 330) the dying cries of Enguerrand were heard by his sister on the walls of Arques. It is a good story which might even be true, for less than a mile separates the castle from Saint-Aubin-sur-Scie, and the exact site of the engagement is unknown. [Ref: 48 Wm Conqueror, pg 66]

Note: CP states that Enguerrand died without any male issue, but "The Ancestors of Paul McBride", a fairly reliable website with good genealogical information, states that Enguerrand and Adele had Piers de Valognes as a son. The website also lists Hugh II de Ponthieu as son of Enguerrand, but that misinformation comes from, among other sources, an error in the well respected German book Schwennicke's "Europ‰ische Stammtafeln" (ES).
