His paternal grandparents were King Henry I OF THE GERMANS Heinrick "The Fowler" and Saint Matilda OF RINGLEHEIM. He had two sisters named Wichburg and Richilde. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Otto II, Luitgard and Richilde.
