General Notes

I have no source for Joan's parents; and the World Connect people seem fairly evenly divided between William and Roger Munchensi as father.  The people that go with William have a birth year for Joan of 1259, which seems reasonable.  The people who state that her father was Roger have Joan's birth year as 1236, which is very early, considering that her daughter Helen was b. c 1281/4, which would have put Joan at age 45-48 at her birth.

The big problem with the William group is that William supposedly (according to CP) had only one legitimate daughter and heir, Denise.  I have decided that Roger is more likely to be father because of the information in CP.  Roger is not sourced. 

The key to this ancestry is probably the history of Stansted Hall, which is claimed to have descended from Roger Munchensi.  Hubert de Munchensy held the land in the Domesday 1086.  I have found no history on it, other than the Domesday reference and the reference to Walter of Colchester, of Stansted, probably in right of his wife.

Stansted Hall (at least the mansion built in the 1871, but there was a prior hall, now in ruins) is currently the home of Arthur Findlay College, a psychic learning center.  According to their history, the hall descended to Elizabeth, wife of John de Vere, 12th Earl of Oxford, in 1438.  It remained in the de Vere family, except for a brief ownership by the Duke of Norfolk, until 1582, when the 17th Earl of Oxford sold it to Sir Thomas Middleton.

Richard de Montfichet (1150-1204) held Stanstead Mountfichet (the official name of Stansted) in the 12th century.  I have no idea how it got to the Munchensy family and/or the Colchester family.
