Mary Jane was born on December 2nd, 1836 in Nova Scotia.  Mary Jane's father was Daniel Morrison and her mother was Mary Martha Fulmore.  Her paternal grandparents were Jonathon Morrison and Martha Faulkner. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Thomas Reed, Isaac Bain, George Benjamin, Martha Polly, Margaret Peggy, Rebecca T, Eleanor and Priscilla.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.
