Hugues De was born about 1042 in St Germain Montgomery, Normandy, France. Hugues De's father was 1st Earl Of Shrewsbury Roger De Montgomery 1st Earl Of Shrewsbury and his mother was Mabel De Talvas D' Alencon. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Arnulph De, Philip De, Robert II De, Roger De, Maud De, Sybil De, Mabel De and Emma De. He died on July 31st, 1098 in Montgomery, Montgomershire, Wales. Shrewsbury, Earldom of: His [Roger, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury's] son, the 2nd Earl of Shrewsbury (or Shropshire) of the 1074 creation, was killed by a missile launched from a Norse (or conceivably Irish) raiding party off the Anglesey coast while riding along the forshore on that island trying to fend them off. He was accounted gentle by the English and Normans but a Hammer by the Welsh. Under the systerm then prevailing the Earldom passed to an elder brother, Robert de Belleme, who constructed Bridgnorth Castle and continued the family policy of harrying the Welsh. He rebelled against Henry I and in 1102 was deprived of the Earldom of Shrewsbury/Shropshire, together with his English and Welsh estates. [Burke's Peerage, p. 2604]
