Hugh de Montfort , Sir 
Hugh de was born about 1072 in Folkingham, Warwickshire, England. Hugh de's father was Gilbert de Gant , Lord of Folkingham and his mother was Alice Countess de Montfort. His paternal grandparents were Ralph de Gant , Sire d'Alost and Gisele of Luxembourg; his maternal grandparents were Hugh II Count de Montfort and Alice de Beauffou. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Walter de, Peter de, Felia de, Emma de and Agnes de. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died about 1124.General Notes
Hugh de Montfort, who, on account of his mother being so great an heiress, assumed the name of Montfort, inherited all the possessions of his grandfather and was called Hugh the fourth. This Hugh, having m. Adeline, dau. of Robert, Earl of Mellent, joined with Waleran, her brother, and all those who endeavoured to advance William, son of Robert Curthose, against King Henry I in 1124, and entering Normandy for that purpose, he was made prisoner, with the said Waleran, and confined for the fourteen years ensuing. The time of his death is not ascertained but he left issue, Robert; Thurstan; Adeline, m. to William de Britolio; Ada, m. to Richard, son of the Earl of Gloucester.
