Amaury VI de was born about 1175 in Evereux, Eure, Normandy, France. Amaury VI de's father was Amaury V de Montfort , Comte d'Evereux and his mother was Mabel FitzRobert Countess of Gloucester. His paternal grandparents were Simon III Chauve de Montfort , Count d'Evereux and Maud Countess of Evereux; his maternal grandparents were William FitzRobert 2nd Earl of Gloucester and Hawise de Beaumont. John (King of England) prevented her (Isabel, youngest daughter of William FitzRobert) taking a second husband at all for the time being, however, and exchanged the Earldom of Gloucester with Aumarie de Montfort, son of William FitzRobert's eldest daughter Mabel, for the Comte of Evereux, which he then used as a dowry to secure the marriage of his niece Blanche with the King of France's son. Aumarie died childless.
