Alice was born about 1195 in Lytchett Matravers, Poole, Dorsetshire, England. Alice's father was John II de Maltravers , of Lytchett, Sir and her mother was Hawise. Her paternal grandparents were John I de Maltravers , of Lytchett, Sir and Alice FitzGeoffrey , Heiress. She had a brother named John III de. She was the older of the two children.General Notes

Gloucester, Elston, Orcheston St. George, Sherrington, Ashton, and Broughton Gifford, Wilts, son and heir of Sir Elis GIFFARD, of Brimpsfield, &c. (who died shortly before 2 May 1248), by his 2nd wife, Alice, sister of Sir John MAUTRAVERS, of Lytchet Matravers, Dorset (a).
