BIOGRAPHY: William, a Norman Baron, one of the general and companions of William The Conqueror, said to have been the brother of King Harold's wife, and to have been entrusted with the guard of Harold's body after he had been slain on the battlefield. Afterthe conquest he was made governor of York Castle and slain init's defense.
