Gerhard IV Duke of Alsace Upper was born about 1010 in Alsace, Lorraine, France.  Gerhard IV Duke of Alsace Upper's father was Gerhard II Count of Metz and his mother was Gisella of Alsace. He had a brother named Adalbert III Count.  He was the older of the two children.  He died on April 4th, 1070 in Remiremont, Vosges, France.
