Dietrich II Duke of Upper was born in 1055 in Alsace & Lorraine, France. Dietrich II Duke of Upper's father was Gerhard IV Duke of Alsace Upper Lorraine and his mother was Hadwide de Namur. He had two brothers and a sister, named Thierry II Duke of Alsace, Gerard I Count of and Beatrice de. He was the second oldest of the four children.
