Thomas de Furnival, son of Thomas de Furnival, 1st Baron Furnival, and Elizabeth de Montfort, was himself a baron, having been summoned to parliament as "ThomE de Furnival, Junior," from 25 August 1318, to 27 January, 1332, and without "junior," until 15 November, 1338 (12th Edward III). This nobleman, who, like his father, was engaged in the Scottish wars, m. Joan, eldest dau. and co-heiress of Theobald de Verdon, but without the king's licence, for which he had to pay a fine of £200. By this lady he acquired extensive estates in co. Stafford, and had two sons, Thomas and William. His lordship d. in 1339, and was s. by the elder, Thomas de Furnival, 3rd baron.
