William I was born about 1176 in England.  William I's father was Henry II "Curt Mantel" King of England and his mother was Rosamond "Fair Rosamond" de Clifford.  His paternal grandparents were Geoffrey IV Plantagenet , Comte d'Anjou and Maud "The Empress" Princess of England; his maternal grandparents were Walter I FitzRichard de Clifford , Sir and Margaret de Toeni. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Richard I "The Lion Hearted" King of, Geoffrey, John I "Lackland" Plantagenet King of, Henry "Young King", Matilda Princess of and Eleanor Princess of.  He died in Salisbury Castle, Wiltishire, England.

‌William I and Ela were married in a religious ceremony in 1198.  They had two sons and two daughters, named William II, Stephen de, Ida (Idonea) and Isabel.
