John was born in 1145 in Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  John's father was John "The Marshall" FITZGILBERT MARSHALL and his mother was Sibilla of Salisbury D'EVEREAUS.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert "The Marshall" FITZROBERT and DE VENUZ; his maternal grandparents were Sheriff/ Walter Of Wiltshire FITZEDWARD DE EVEREUX and Sibyl DE CHAWORTH. He had a brother named William "The Protector" Of Pembroke.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-sister named Margaret.
