Thomas De Holland Earl of was born in 1314 in Upholland, Lancaster, England. Thomas De Holland Earl of's father was Robert De Holland and his mother was Maud La Zouche. His paternal grandparents were Robert De Holland and Elizabeth De Salmesbury; his maternal grandparents were Eudes La Zouche and Milicent De Cantelou. He had a brother and four sisters, named John, Joan, Margaret, Elizabeth and Maud. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 46 on December 26th, 1360 in Normandy, France.General Notes
Sir Thomas Holland, one of founders of Order of the Garter, married Joan Plantagenet, the Fair Maid of Kent, daughter of Edmund, son of Edward I, King of England, and his 2nd wife, Margaret, daughter of Philip III, King of France. Sir Thomas Holland died in Normandy Dec. 26 or 28, 1360, and was buried in the church of the Grey Friars at Stamford. Joan died 1385. She was married 1st to Lord Montacute, Earl of Salisbury, and is thought by some authorities to have been the Countess of Salisbury, who lost the famous Garter. After Sir Thomas Holland's death she married Edward, the Black Prince, and they were parents of Richard II, King of England. Thus her son Thomas, aged nine or ten at his father's death, was half brother to King Richard. She received Robes of the Order of the Garter in 1378-79-84-85.
