William de was born about 1210 in Rampton, Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, England. William de's father was Robert II de Insula , of Rampton and his mother was Beatrice de Cormeilles. He had a brother and a sister, named Robert III de and Cassandra de. He was the youngest of the three children.
