Bela the Holy, died 1063. King of Hungary 1061-63. He married Richenza, daughter of Mieczyslaw II, born 990, died 1034, King of Poland, and his wife Richenza, daughter of Ehrenfeld, Palatine of the Rhin and Matilda, daughter of Emperor Otto II. (Mieczyslaw II was son of Boleslaw I, son of Mieczyslaw I, the first Christian Duke of Poland and with whom opens the authentic history of Poland and who is entitled to the remembrance of posterity, not merely from his being the first Christian ruler of Poland, but from the success with which he abolished paganism and enforced the observance of the new faith in his dominions.
