Marie von was born about 1201 in Hohenstauffen, Bavaria.  Marie von's father was Phillip II Duke of Swabia Holy Roman Emperor and her mother was Irene Angelica , Princess Byzantine Empire.  Her paternal grandparents were Frederick I Barbarossa Holy Roman Emperor and Beatrice de Macon; her maternal grandparents were Isaac II Angelus Emperor of Byzantine Empire and Irene Comnenus.
