William Hickocks 
William was born on December 10th, 1609 in Stratford, Avon, Warwickshire, England. William's father was Thomas Hickocks and his mother was Elizabeth Sturley. His paternal grandfather was Edward Hickocks; his maternal grandparents were Abraham Sturley and Anne Hill. He was an only child. There has been a great deal of controversy from whence came William
Hickocks, (Hickok, Hickox, Hicock), Who died in Farmington, Connecticut,
s oon after 1645, Leaving a Widow, Elizabeth, and two young sons. In all
probab ility, the family came from Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire,
England. Strat ford upon Avon is a quite English market town that has
become famous as the b irthplace of William Shakespere. It is one of the
oldest towns in England. Hi gh peak old english style houses line its
narrow streets. It is the largest t own in the district. William Hickok
left England just a few years befor civil war broke out in 1645. Embarked
on the Plaine Joan which sailed from London for the Northern contenent on
May 15, 1635. Recorded in Newhaven, Moved to Ha rtford in 1643, settling
in Farmington, Connecticut where he was one of the o riginal settlers.
After a Hard life as a farmer he died about 1645, leaving a widow
Elizabeth and two sons, Samuel and Joseph. Both sons were born in
Fa rmington.
