Olaf was born about 0877 in Oslo, Norway.  Olaf's father was Harald I "Haarfagri" 1st King of Norway and his mother was Swanhilda Eysteinsdottir.  His paternal grandparents were Halfdan "The Black" King of Vestfold and Ragnhild Sigurdsdottir; his maternal grandparents were Eystein "Glumra" Ivarsson , Jarl of the Upplands and Aseda Rognvaldsdottir. He had a brother named Biorn "The Merchant" Underking of.  He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Erik "Bloodaxe" King of Northumberland &, Sigurd "Rese", Alof "Aarbod" Haraldsdottir Princess of and Ingeborg.  He died in 0934 in Tonsberg, Norway.

He had two biological sons named Tryggve (Truggvi) and Ragnvald.
