Gudrod "The Magnificent" was born about 0771 in Holtum, Vestfold, Norway. Gudrod "The Magnificent"'s father was Halfdan II Milldi Eysteinsson King of Vestfold and his mother was Hilf Dagsdottir. His paternal grandparents were Eysteinn I "Fart" Halfdansson , King of Vestfold and Hilda Eriksdottir. He had a brother named Ivar I Oplaendinge. He was the older of the two children. He died before 0827 in Vestfold, Norway (murdered-instigated by wife Asa). He was buried in King of Vestfold, Vermaland, & Vignulmark.General Notes
Gudrod, "the Magnificent", also called "the Hunting-King", son of Halfdan "White-Leg" and Asa (Moriarty) (Sturleson says great grandson of Halfdan "White-leg"), King of Vermaland, Vestfold and Vingulmark, murdered 810-827 at instigation of (2) wife Asa in revenge for forcibly abducting her and killing c 800 her father and brother; m. (1) Alfhilde, daughter of Alfrim, ruler of Vingulmark; m. (2) Asa, daughter of Harald "Red-Beard", King of Agdir. Note: My line agrees with Sturleson (Gudrod is great grandson of Halfdan) and not Moriarty (where Gudrod is son of Halfdan).

Also recorded as Godefrid, the sixth king of Haithabu, murdered in 810.
He made war on King Harald Redbeard Herbrandsson and killed Harald and his son Gyrd and took a great booty and Harald's daughter, Asa, who he married. A year after the birth of son Halfdan, Gudrod was anchored in Stiflu Sound where a great banquet was given for him and he became very drunk. Upon going on land at the pier, a man leapt at him and speared him through, killing him. The killer was immediately slain and in the morning they found it was Queen Asa's page. Son Olaf succeeded his father and later he and Halfdan, Asa's son, divided the kingdom.
