Cynfyn ap was born about 0982 in Powys, Wales. Cynfyn ap's father was Gwerystan ap Gwaithfoed , Baron Powys and his mother was Nest verch Cadell. He had two sisters named Elinor verch and Lleuki verch. He was the second oldest of the three children.
‌Cynfyn ap and Angharad verch were married in a religious ceremony after 1023 in 2nd husband. They had two sons and a daughter, named Bleddyn "Sais" ap, Rhiwallon ap and Iwerydd verch.
