Bertha de was born about 1130 in Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England.  Bertha de's father was Miles FitzWalter Earl of Hereford and her mother was Sybil de Neufmarche.  Her paternal grandparents were Walter FitzRoger , Sheriff of Gloucester and Emma de Ballon; her maternal grandparents were Bernard de Neufmarche , Lord of Brecon and Nesta verch Osborn. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Roger FitzMiles of, Walter Sheriff of Gloucester &, Henry of, Mahel of, William of, Margaret de and Lucy of.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.

‌Bertha de and William II de were married in a religious ceremony about 1150 in England.  They had a son and four daughters, named William III 5th Baron de, Matilda (Maud) de, Sybil de, Bertha de and Susan Maud de.
