Walter II was born about 1040 in Longueville, Normandy, France.  Walter II's father was Walter I Giffard , Seigneur of Longueville and his mother was Agnes Flatel.  His paternal grandparents were Osbern I de Bolbec , Seigneur of Longueville and Avelina (Duvelina) de Crepon; his maternal grandfather was Gerard Flatel. He had a sister named Rohese.  He was the younger of the two children.
