Osbert (Osbern) II was born about 1182 in Winterborn Houghton, Blandford, Dorsetshire, England. Osbert (Osbern) II's father was Elias III Giffard , Lord of Brimpsfield and his mother was Maud de Berkeley. His paternal grandparents were Elias II Giffard , Lord of Brimpsfield and Bertha (Berta) de Clifford; his maternal grandparents were Maurice "Make Peace" FitzHarding , Lord Berkeley and Alice de Berkeley. He had two brothers named Walter and Elias IV. He was the youngest of the three children. He died before October 17th, 1237 in Deddington, Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England.General Notes

(who died shortly before 17 October 1237), by Isabel, daughter and heir of Sir Alan DE BOCLAND, of Egg Buckland and Hooe (a): which last named Osbern was a younger son of Sir Elis GIFFARD, of Brimpsfield, co. (a) Isabel was daughter and heir of Alan de Bocland, of Egg Buckland and Hooe, by Alice, younger daughter and coheir (the other was Beatrice, wife of Robert Mauduit) of Ralph Murdac, by Eve de Gray, Lady of Standlake and Dornford, Oxon. Alice was afterwards wife of Ralph Harenge.
