Ranulph de was born about 1100 in Guernon Castle, Normandy, France.  Ranulph de's father was Ranulph le Meschin , 3rd Earl of Chester and his mother was Lucy (Lucia) of Mercia.  His paternal grandparents were Ranulph le Meschin , Viscount of Bayeux and Margaret d' Avranches , Heiress of Chester. He had a brother and a sister, named William de and Adeliza Alice le.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named William de, William de and Beatrice de.  He died on December 16th, 1153 in Chester, Cheshire, England (poisoned).

‌Ranulph de and Maud FitzRobert de were married in a religious ceremony about 1141 in Gloucestershire, England.  They had a son and two daughters, named Hugh de, Alice le and Johanna de.
