Robert was born about 1355 in Buckton. Robert's father was John Forster and his mother was Heiress Etherstone Heiress. His paternal grandparents were Gamekeeper For Bsp Of Durham Gilbert De Buckton ( Aleas Forster) Gamekeeper For Bsp Of Durham and Ivetta Vaux; his maternal grandfather was Roger De Etherstone. Thomas owned a pele tower in adderstone in 1415. So the family were growing in importance. In 1445 Thomas Forste appears in the Subsidy Roll as holding one-quarter of a knight's fee in Adderstone. This was land held in exchange for military service. By this time the family had acquired a coat of arms and this is really the start of the family. The names of Thomas and Elizaeth recur with great frequency, in fact every eldest son, bar one, was called Thomas. Robert was listed as John who married Elziabeth de Orde. She may have married twice.
