Dolfin was born about 1075 in Yorkshire, England. Dolfin's father was Gospatric FitzArkyl and his mother was Miss Dolfinsdottir. His paternal grandparents were Arkyl of Yorkshire , Saxon Thane and Sigrida of Yorkshire; his maternal grandfather was Dolfin Finntuirsson. He was an only child.
