Gunnild of was born in 1126 in Dunbar Castle, East Lothian, Scotland. Gunnild of's father was Waltheof Lord of Allerdale and her mother was Sigrid. Her paternal grandparents were Gospatric I Earl of Northumbria Mormaer Dunbar and Aethelreda of England. She was an only child.
They had a son and a daughter, named Roland Lord of and Eva.
