Geoffrey was born in 1158 in Dutton, Chester, England.  Geoffrey's father was Hugh De Dutton III Lord Dutton and his mother was Alice Prescott.  His paternal grandparents were Hugh Fitzodard II Lord Dutton and Alice Pichard; his maternal grandfather was Richard Prescott. He had two brothers named Hugh De Dutton IV Lord and Adam.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
