Gilbert FitzRichard II Earl was born in 1065 in Clare, Suffolk, England. Gilbert FitzRichard II Earl's father was Richard Tonebridge FitzGilbert I Earl de Clare and his mother was Rohese Giffard. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert Crispin I Count of Brionne and Gunnora D'Anjou; his maternal grandparents were Walter "The Elder" Giffard Earl of Buckingham and Ermentrude Agnes Flaitel. He had a brother and a sister, named Richard Fitz Richard de Clare Abbot of and Ronais FitzGilbert. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 41 in 1106.General Notes
Gilbert de Tonebruge and de Clare, inherited all of his father's lands in England. In rebellion against the King, William Rufus, he fortified and lost his Castle of Tunbridge. He married in 1113 Adeliza, or Alice, daughter of Hugh, Count of Clermont, in Beauvais.
