William was born in 1159 in Reading, England.  William's father was Walter William II De Cantilupe and his mother was Melette De Dynan.  His paternal grandfather was Walter De Cantelou. He had a sister named Maud.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 80 on April 7th, 1239 in Reading, England.

They had two sons and a daughter, named William, John and Isabel.
