Arnald was born about 0922 in Boulogne, Artois, France.  Arnald's father was William Comte De Ponthieu and his mother was Maud De St. Pol.  His paternal grandparents were Roger De Ponthieu and Bertha of Boulogne; his maternal grandparents were Adelulf De Boulogne and Mahaut Crequy. He had a brother named Hildouin.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died about 0972 in Abbaye De Samais-aux-bois, France.
