Thurstan was born in 1028 in Normandy, France.  Thurstan's father was Comte De Montfort-sur-Rislet Hugh I " Barbatus" De Montfort Comte De Montfort-sur-Rislet and his mother was Adeline De Beaumont.  His paternal grandparents were Thurstan De Montfort De Bastembourg and Juliane Murdac; his maternal grandfather was Henry De Beaumont. He had a brother named Hugh II Seigneur.  He was the younger of the two children.
