Simon II de was born about 1172 in Dammartin, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France, France.  Simon II de's father was Alberic II Comte de Dammartin and his mother was Maud (Mathilde) of Clermont.  His paternal grandparents were Alberic I Comte de Dammartin , Lord of Norton and Unknown First Wife; his maternal grandparents were Reinald II Count of Clermont and Clemence de Bar-le-Duc. He had two sisters named Juliana de and Agnes de.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died on September 21st, 1239 in Abbeville, Somme, Picardy, France.  He was buried in Valoires, France.
