Agnes de was born in 1177 in Dammartin, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France, France.  Agnes de's father was Alberic II Comte de Dammartin and her mother was Maud (Mathilde) of Clermont.  Her paternal grandparents were Alberic I Comte de Dammartin , Lord of Norton and Unknown First Wife; her maternal grandparents were Reinald II Count of Clermont and Clemence de Bar-le-Duc. She had a brother and a sister, named Simon II de and Juliane de.  She was the youngest of the three children.
