Adalberto II's father was Marchess Alberto II Otberto I Humbert I and his mother was Railando OF CUMO.  His paternal grandparents were Count Alberto Azzo D'ESTE OF LUCCA Otberto I and Railinda DI PIACENZA; his maternal grandfather was Count Wiprand OF CUMO Riprand. He had a brother and a sister, named Azzo I AZZO and Bertha.
