Cydifor ap was born about 1044 in Senghennydd, Glamorganshire, Wales. Cydifor ap's father was Cydrych ap Gwaithfoed , of Gwynfe and his mother was Nest verch Tangno. His paternal grandfather was Gwaiethfoed , of Ystrad Tywi; his maternal grandfather was Tangno ap Cadfael , of Merionethshire. He had a brother named Gruffudd ap. He was the older of the two children.
