Eleanor de was born in 1208 in Courtenay, Rheims, France.  Eleanor de's father was Peter II Count de Courtenay , Byzantine Emperor and her mother was Yolande of Flanders , Byzantine Empress.  Her paternal grandparents were Peter I Count de Courtenay , Prince of France and Elizabeth de Courtenay; her maternal grandparents were Baudouin VIII Count (V of Hainault) of Flanders and Margaret of Alsace , Countess of Flanders. She had a sister named Yolande de.  She was the younger of the two children. She had a half-sister named Maud de.  She died at the age of 22 in 1230.
